The master's thesis in the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences / College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra - examined teaching competence and its relationship to emotional intelligence among teachers of educational subjects in secondary schools. The thesis, by the student Amjad Matar Danin Al-Majidi, aimed to study the correlation between the variables of teaching competence and emotional intelligence, by identifying the extent to which teachers of educational subjects possess teaching competencies supported by effective emotional intelligence. The thesis included five chapters. In the first chapter, the researcher explained the problem of his study, its importance, its objective, the limits of the study, and the definition of terms. The second chapter included two axes: the theoretical framework and previous studies. The first axis included teaching competence, the foundations of teaching competence, sources of deriving teaching competence, indicators of teaching competence, characteristics of teaching competence, and teacher preparation in light of the concept of competencies. The second axis included Arab and foreign studies and aspects of benefiting from them and what distinguishes the current study from previous studies. The third chapter included the research methodology and procedures, as the researcher followed the descriptive correlational approach. He prepared a scale of teaching competence, while the scale of emotional intelligence was adopted. The fourth chapter included the presentation and interpretation of the results that the researcher reached through statistical data, which indicated that there were no statistically significant differences according to the variable of teaching competence among teachers of educational subjects in secondary schools attributed to the gender variable (males-females), and the existence of statistically significant differences according to the variable of teaching competence among teachers of educational subjects in secondary schools attributed to the variable of experience. The thesis recommended the possibility of The list of teaching competencies identified by the current research should be used by institutions concerned with preparing teachers to measure their level of teaching competence before they begin teaching, and thus prepare a targeted training program by the Ministry of Education that would raise the level of teaching competence of teachers of educational subjects during service in a manner consistent with current developments. The departments of educational and psychological sciences should hold dialogue sessions with teachers to explain the impact of emotional intelligence and its important role in our dealings with others
