College of Pharmacy Discusses the Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Famotidine Treatment
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah discussed (the anti-inflammatory effects of famotidine treatment in a model of respiratory tract inflammation in rats)
The thesis presented by the student Wasan Ali Hassan aims to study the role of famotidine in treating some respiratory inflammatory diseases in rats and compare it with prednisolone treatment.
The results showed that famotidine shows anti-inflammatory effects compared to prednisolone for inflammation in the airways of rats, as it was shown that it reduces the production of cytokines (TNfà.IL6) and hinders the activation of immune cells (eosinophils, neutrophils and monocytes) and reduces damage to lung tissue caused by inflammation.
The results indicated that famotidine may have potential therapeutic applications beyond its primary use for treating heartburn.
