A master's thesis at the college of Science, University of Basrah (improving the geotechnical properties of cohesive and non - cohesive soils using Portland cement and polymer emulsion(isocyanide, polyester and polyvinyl acetate) in selected locations of Basrah governorate-southern Iraq) . The thesis presented by the student (Taqi Amer Haider al-Subaie) aims to improve the geotechnical properties of selected cohesive and non-cohesive soils from Basrah governorate using chemical additives of environmentally and economically appropriate Composite polymers and mixing them with cement to reach the best rate of improvement at an appropriate economic cost. The letter included a method to improve the geotechnical properties of cohesive and non-cohesive soils selected from two sites in the cities of Tanuma and Um Qasr in the Basra governorate in southern Iraq by adding Portland cement at 5% of the sample weight and a polymer emulsion consisting of (polyvinyl acetate, unsaturated polyester and isocyanide) in proportions of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25% . The thesis concluded that the polymer emulsion used is effective in strengthening and activating the cement's ability to bind cohesive and non-cohesive soils. Increase the resistance and development of geotechnical properties of cohesive and non-cohesive soils. The letter recommended the use of chemical additives such as polymers and mixing them with cement in the improvement processes because they are commercially available in addition to reducing the economic cost.
