The Department of geoscience at the college of science organized a seminar on the petrophysical, mineralogical and geochemical study of the middle shale member of the Zubair formation in the Rumaila field. The seminar delivered by the student Hussein Ali Hussein aimed to clarify how to conduct a reservoir assessment of the middle shale member ( MSM ) in the Zubair formation in the Rumaila oil field, the study included the study of the petrophysical properties(permeability, porosity, shale size, water saturation, etc.) of the reservoir using sensors for selected oil wells in the study area, in addition to the geochemical study, through which the main oxides and trace elements were identified, and the results were that silica oxide is the most widespread oxide and barium is the most widespread trace element, and the mineralogy by which non-clay minerals and clay minerals were identified and the results were Quartz is the most widespread non-clay mineral and kaolinite is the most widespread clay mineral in the study area. The seminar included clarifying the concentrations of ( main oxides, trace elements, clay minerals and non-clay minerals) in the study area and the extent of their impact on the petrophysical properties and thus their impact on production. In addition to determining the depositional environment, the depositional environment of the reservoir was a Delta environment with acidic conditions.
