The College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the Basra Police Directorate, Criminal Evidence Department, organized an awareness seminar on electronic blackmail and its psychological, social and legal effects, in the presence of the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Professor Dr. Nidaa Muhammad Baqir.
The seminar aimed to explain the dangers of electronic blackmail, its effects, causes, legal consequences and methods of prevention.
The seminar, which was moderated by Dr. Abdul Karim Zayer Al-Muzani, Dr. Amal Abdul Razzaq, Police Brigadier Hussein Faleh and legal expert Adnan Al-Alaq, provided a detailed explanation of electronic blackmail and its material and other purposes by keeping electronic recordings and pictures, and the methods of blackmailers in luring victims and how to obtain information from phones and computers or hack social media accounts.
The symposium highlighted the effects of blackmail that lead to the spread of crime in society, which may lead to murder and the destruction of the victim's future, in addition to spreading chaos, fear, unrest and insecurity. The lecturers explained ways to protect against blackmail by securing accounts and not accepting friend requests from unknown people, and providing advice and guidance to avoid falling victim to this widespread cybercrime
