The master's thesis in the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance / College of Education for Humanities / University of Basra (Desirable thinking and its relationship to self-handicap among orphan students in secondary school)
The thesis submitted by the student Fatima Hamid Abdul Samad Ashour Al-Mazini aims to identify the relationship between desireful thinking and self-handicap among orphan students in secondary school and the significance of statistical differences in self-handicap and desireful thinking according to the gender variable (males - females)
The thesis included achieving the objectives of the current research, so it is necessary to have tools to measure the research variables, so the desireful thinking scale was built and its paragraphs consisted of (30) paragraphs presented to the research sample, and it is from one direction only with a hypothetical mean of 60 and takes the degrees (3, 2, 1) and prepared to suit the Iraqi environment and the current research sample and adopt the self-handicap scale for the year (2021) and after verifying the psychometric properties of the two scales and verifying their validity for application, the self-handicap scale in its final form became composed of (25 paragraphs) take the grades (3, 2, 1) respectively and with a hypothetical mean of 50. After applying the paragraphs of the two tools to the research sample and conducting statistical analyses. The thesis concluded several results, including that the wishful thinking of the individuals in the current research sample (orphan students) is a positive aspect and a contributing factor to overcoming the situation they live in from parental deprivation. Orphan students do not have severe psychological problems that reflect their negatives on their thinking and desires. On the contrary, they enjoy broad desires through their thinking about their future. The researcher also presented recommendations, including the demand to organize annual statistics on the numbers of orphan students and document them officially by the Ministries of Education, Labor and Social Affairs, the purpose of which is to prepare educational guidance programs to organize the ideas of this category and contain them. The researcher also presented proposals to supplement the current research in the future, which is to conduct a similar study for other samples such as (people with special needs, displaced persons, slow learners)
