University of Basra organizes a discussion session on adolescents and negative use of the Internet
The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra organized a discussion session on adolescents and the use of the Internet and how to help parents confront these risks.
The session aimed to educate parents on how to guide their adolescent children to use the Internet in the correct way, and the means to reduce its psychological and health damages.
The session, presented by lecturer Ibtihal Farhan Khalifa, showed the negative effects resulting from using the Internet with the freedom to access this network and spend long hours on the sites, which affect adolescents' concepts, morals, and ideas far from the values and traditions of society, in addition to the psychological effects that reach the point of addiction, which leads to serious symptoms such as stress, depression, anxiety, aggression, a decline in academic level, and health and social effects.
The session recommended many recommendations to address the negative use of the Internet, such as keeping adolescents busy with sports or encouraging reading, setting times for playing electronic games, as well as following up and monitoring adolescents and discussing their problems and working to solve them.
