University of Basra organizes a scientific workshop on external migration, its causes and effects
The Department of Geography at the College of Education for Human Sciences organized a scientific workshop on the features of external migration, its causes and effects, in the presence of the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs and the authorized person to manage and run the college, Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Khazal Al-Kaabi.
The workshop aimed to identify the reasons that led to migration and the political, economic and social consequences resulting from it.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Abbas Abdul Hassan Kazim and Dr. Osama Hamid Majeed, addressed the concept of illegal migration, its causes, and the political, economic and social effects of international migration and how to reduce it, as it violates the laws, in addition to the various effects that migrants are exposed to, which may lead to loss of life.
The Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs stated that the phenomenon of illegal immigration is a global phenomenon that is not limited to Iraq or poor countries only, and it targets young people in particular. What is required is to work on how to reduce and address it, by strengthening the role of young people in society, providing them with job opportunities, and strengthening the national identity, in addition to the role of the media and academic institutions in focusing on this dangerous phenomenon and explaining its psychological, social and abuse effects, which reach violence and detention.
