The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Study the prevalence of human Echinococosis in Basrah province and the association of genes polymorphisms with susceptibility to parasitic infections) by the graduate student Fatima Naeem Mahood.
The study aims: studying the prevalence of human echinococcosis in Basrah province, disquisition of different risk factors contributing to develop the infection such as age, sex, occupation, chronic diseases, and contact with animals, and investigating the association of TLRs genes polymorphisms with the susceptibility to develop echinococcosis. The study included: microscopic examination of the cyst using eosin stain, studying the relationship between risk factors such as age, gender, etc. and their contribution to the development of disease and the study investigated the relationship between the polymorphisms of TLR2 Arg753Gln and TLR4 Asp299Gly using PCR technology, TLR4 Asp299Gly, TLR2 Arg677Trp using ARMS-PCR technology with the susceptibility to develop echinococcosis and the study was recommended:1. Study other TLRs gene polymorphisms and their relation with susceptibility to echinococcosis.
