University of Basra organizes a discussion session on the phenomenon of trends and their challenges
The Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra organized a discussion session on the psychological and social effects of the trend phenomenon.
The session aimed to identify the reasons that push people to adopt the common trends and behaviors of others, the effects of this phenomenon, and to know the necessary ways to reduce it.
The session, presented by Dr. Nada Razzaq Fadel, touched on many positives of the trend phenomenon and its impact on shaping public opinion, such as hashtags launched on major crimes or combating electronic blackmail, which leads to mobilizing support to bring about positive change.
The session showed that adolescents are the most vulnerable to the negative effects of trends, such as repression, loss of personal identity, depression, and falsification of consciousness, in addition to physical problems such as performing difficult movements or using dangerous household materials such as falling from heights or suffocation by drowning.
