The Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra organized a scientific symposium on the occasion of the International Day of the Arabic Language under the title "Arabic: Legacy and Progress".
The symposium aimed to raise awareness of the importance of the Arabic language and highlight its historical and cultural status, as it is the language of the Holy Quran and an extension of the Arab and Islamic heritage.
The symposium, which was moderated by a number of instructors, included several axes that addressed various aspects of the beauty and brilliance of the Arabic language, the importance of the media in preserving linguistic integrity, in addition to discussing the dialect of Abu Dharr and its linguistic connotations and interpretations. The efforts of Arabic linguists in improving and developing linguistic vowels were also addressed. The symposium stressed the need to raise awareness of the importance of the Arabic language, linking it to technological developments and artificial intelligence, encouraging qualitative scientific research in linguistic and literary studies, and promoting the Arabic language in departments of colleges of higher education and at all stages of study, especially in primary and post-primary studies. The importance of preserving the Arab cultural identity was also emphasized, and it called for holding more symposia and competitions to promote the language and protect it from modern challenges. The symposia were attended by Dr. Bashir Saeed Sahar, Dr. Fakher Al-Yasiri, Dr. Suwadi Faraj Maklaf, Dr. Jabbar Awda Badan, Dr. Salem Yaqoub, Dr. Salima Jabbar Ghanem, Dr. Mithaq Hassan Abdul Wahid, Dr. Murtada Abbas Faleh, and Dr. Sabah Aidi Attia.
