Discussion Panel Held on the "History of Pharmacy in Mesopotamia" at the College of Pharmacy
The Department of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, organized a discussion panel titled "History of Pharmacy in Mesopotamia," highlighting Iraqi scientific leadership across ages.
The panel included a lecture by Lecturer Sabrin Karim Manati, who illustrated the pioneering role of early Iraqi pharmacists in preparing drugs and innovative therapeutic formulations. Mesopotamian civilization relied on primary sources such as plants, animals, and minerals to formulate medical prescriptions that are etched in history.
The session aimed to identify medical achievements in Sumerian, Babylonian, and Assyrian civilizations through cuneiform clay tablets. It also focused on exploring the historical scientific roots of pharmacy in Iraq and working to develop them using the latest contemporary scientific means for public benefit.
