A doctoral thesis in the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance / College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra (The effect of dialectical behavioral guidance and self-construction in developing emotional regulation among middle school students) by the student (Qusay Shanan Mazid).
The thesis aims to identify:
_The effect of dialectical behavioral guidance in developing emotional regulation among middle school students.
_The effect of self-construction guidance in developing emotional regulation among middle school students.
This is done by testing the following null hypotheses:
:- There are no statistically significant differences at the level (0.05) between the average ranks of the scores of the members of the first experimental group (dialectical behavioral guidance) in the pre- and post-tests on the emotional regulation scale.
:- There are no statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) between the average ranks of the scores of the members of the second experimental group (self-constructive guidance) in the pre- and post-tests on the emotional regulation scale.
:- There are no statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) between the average ranks of the scores of the members of the first experimental group (dialectical behavioral guidance) and the second experimental group (self-construction) in the post-test on the emotional regulation scale.
The research reached some conclusions, including:
_ It became clear from the results that the guidance program that was prepared had a clear effect on developing emotional regulation among students of the two experimental groups (first and second), as the differences showed clear statistical significance, and when comparing the first experimental group with the second experimental group on the one hand, and statistically significant differences with the control group that did not receive the guidance program on the other hand.
A set of recommendations including:
_ Benefiting from the emotional regulation scale that was built in this study by educational counselors and psychologists in revealing the nature of emotional regulation among middle school students.
- Organizing special courses for educational counselors in psychological and educational counseling and enlightening them about the importance of modern cognitive counseling methods (the third wave of cognitive behavioral therapy) in treating emotional and psychological disorders that middle school students are exposed to as a result of emotional fluctuations, emotional instability, and irrational beliefs and ideas.
And a set of proposals that came according to the results:
_ Conducting a study to identify the effectiveness of dialectical behavioral counseling and self-construction in reducing negative emotional sensitivity and emotional suppression among middle school students who suffer from parental abuse.
_ Conducting experimental studies on developing emotional regulation using counseling methods according to other cognitive methods such as behavioral activation, empathy-based counseling, and cognitive-analytical counseling by (Anthony Ryle)
