The President of the University of Basrah, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, and the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Nawfal Ali Al-Mubarak, opened the Virtual Anatomy Laboratory of the College of Medicine on Sunday the 19th. of January 2025, in the presence of the deans of the colleges and all members of the University Council.
In order to keep pace with the continuous scientific medical development and the diversity of educational methods, The virtual laboratory provides computers with special programs that enable the student to identify the different parts of the human body and dissect them in the form of advanced plastic models.
The virtual lab is one of the modern technologies in human anatomy by using the virtual dissection table, which is characterized by a high degree of clarity and a wide horizontal viewing area. It is scratch-resistant, break-resistant and liquid-resistant. It also works by touch, withstands high temperatures and works for long hours. The laboratory also contains a virtual transmission platform that can control all the details of the laboratory equipped with professional sound systems and closed-circuit Television.
The virtual laboratory is considered a pioneering step in The field of modern medical education, as it will provide an advanced educational environment that contributes to enhancing the scientific and applied skills of students. This virtual laboratory is the first laboratory in Iraq, and it is the latest version and technological addition that contributes to the development of medical education using modern technologies. The virtual laboratory aims to enable both teachers and students to achieve educational goals by identifying the parts of the body in a simplified manner and facilitating the application of the practical aspect of the curriculum and teaching various scientific principles and techniques and explaining the steps of experiments in three dimensions. Then students will be able to perform a virtual dissection of corpses to see a deeper view of the human body to create a three-dimensional model that can be controlled by zooming in and out, and viewing in different angles.
