The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a discussion of a master's thesis on the use of extracts of the Chamomile and Rosemary plants to remove some heavy elements from the water of the Ashar River in Basra Governorate.
The thesis presented by researcher Sajjad Faisal Mari'i aimed to study the physicochemical properties of the Ashar River water in multiple stations and reduce the concentrations of heavy metals from the water by using extracts of the Chamomile and Rosemary plants to get rid of these metals.
The thesis included the use of two types of local plants and testing their efficiency in removing heavy metals from the water of the Ashar River.
The thesis recommended the use of plants in the field of environmental treatment of pollution occurring in water as an effective means and expanding the study of local rivers in the city of Basra because it suffers from a great deterioration in the quality of its water.
