The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Role of bacterial infections in Induction of innate immunity in UTI patients) by the graduate student Zainab Ali Eidan. The study aims to investigate the impact of bacterial infections on stimulating innate immunity in patients with urinary tract infections (UTIs). It involved the collection and identification of 200 samples using microscopic examination, bacterial culture, the Vitek system, and PCR, along with an analysis of antibiotic resistance. Additionally, the concentrations of innate immune receptors (NLRP3, NLRC4, AIM2) and inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-18, MCP-1) were measured in patients' serum. The study recommends further research on the role of virulence factors in antibiotic resistance, analysis of gene expression for immune receptors, exploration of MCP-1's role in immune modulation, and the use of animal models to experimentally validate the findings.
