The research, presented by student AbdulAziz Qadori Abdulsada, aims to investigate the relationship between asprosin and diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes Mellitus patients in Basrah Governorate. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia levels resulting from a defect in insulin production, insulin action, or both. DM leads to various complications at the macrovascular - and microvascular chronic Among these complications, diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the major microvascular complications and is independently correlated with an increased risk of developing end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The research concluded that serum asprosin levels increased with the progression of diabetic nephropathy . It is notably that serum asprosin levels were positively correlated with the urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) in T2DM patients and negatively correlated with the estimated glomerular fitration rate (eGFR).
This suggests that circulating asprosin may play an important role associated with development of diabetic nephropathy.
