The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra held a scientific lecture on the adoption of the golden ratio of beauty in re-creating a smile
"The golden proportion related to smile design"
The lecture, which was given by the lecturer Dr. Hassanein Ali Mohsen Al-Naml, included the application of the golden ratio in dentistry to the apparent width of the front teeth from the middle to the other end as viewed from the front side. Despite the importance of the golden ratio in dentistry, it cannot be considered the final and measurable dimension and cannot be used alone in making a smile. Rather, the subject depends on other scientific foundations.
The lecture aims to explain how this golden ratio fits into the world of cosmetic dentistry, and he explained that "cosmetic dentistry is a combination of dimensions that can be measured in artistic ways, as the engineering aspect can be organized and applied in re-creating a smile, while these artistic measurements differ from one individual to another according to age and gender.
Al-Naml pointed out the importance of both science and art in creating aesthetic results that satisfy the eye, and that the golden ratio is only one part of understanding science and its application, which can be used as a tool in the process of restoration and smile creation.
