
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra held a lecture titled "Common Mistakes in Official Correspondence," attended by a number of faculty members, administrators, and those interested in the Arabic language.
The lecture aimed to introduce participants to the importance of proper Arabic in writing official letters with clear, concise language. It also aimed to develop administrative correspondence among employees involved in writing official letters, and to assess the foundations of proper writing based on correct Arabic styles to avoid common writing errors.
The lecture, delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Khaled Jaffal, highlighted the concept and importance of proofreading, the steps to follow when writing official letters, and the causes of linguistic errors in official correspondence. It also highlighted the most common linguistic errors in official letters and their correct alternatives.
The lecture recommended the need to review official letters and have them proofread by a proofreader before sending them. It also emphasized the importance of identifying common errors made by employees and compiling them into booklets for their benefit.
