The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a symposium on drugs, their plant sources, and their toxic effects on humans.
The workshop aimed to shed light on plants with toxic and narcotic effects and their impact on human health and public life.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Widad Mazban Taher, a lecturer in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science, addressed the most important plants used in our daily lives but with narcotic and dangerous effects on human life, daily behavior, and social and economic relationships, such as cannabis, poppy, qat, and coca.
The workshop recommended caution against excessive use of these plants in large doses due to their toxic risks to human life, and to avoid their cultivation and propagation.
