(In culture, we challenge the pandemic) Under this slogan, which confirms the effectiveness of culture in human construction, and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, President of the University of Basra, the Cultural Center held a ceremony honoring the winners of the literary competition for poetry and story, which was announced in August under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Aboud Odeh, Director of the Cultural Center.
The competition, which was held under the slogan (With culture, we challenge the pandemic), and in cooperation with a group of institutions and departments concerned with culture, literature and art, the General Directorate of Education of Basra, the Union of Writers and Writers, the Reading Club, the influential forum, the Union of Journalists, the Basra branch of the presidency of the University of Basra, for a conscious culture that believes in the role of building and challenging the crisis we are going through and encouraging young writers who are a symbol of the future of literary creativity in our Iraq today.
The honoring activities began by reading any of the Holy Quran, and then it ranged in the space of the Iraqi peace and national hall.
The activities of the competition included the speech of the President of the University of Basra, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen, which was delivered by the Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ali Hadi, an apprecifior, with his speech, the efforts made and his support for the youth segment, followed by the speech of the Director of the Cultural Center, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Abboud, in which he welcomed the honorable guests from the governorates of Iraq, and thanked the committees and the contributors in the competition. After that, Ms. Suhad Abdul Razzaq, Director of the Reading Club, gave the speech of the Preparatory Committee, in which she explained the launch of the competition, the method of arbitration and the distinctive efforts that confirm the spirit of teamwork, and then the certificates of appreciation and shields were distributed to the participating committees, beginning with the Preparatory Committee, the text selection The given The poetry jury was drawn from Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahed Al-Mansouri, the poet Kazem Al-Hajjaj, and Dr. Siraj Mohammed, while the jury of the story was comeded by the creators, Professor Al-Qas Mohammed Khudair, Dr. Salman Kasad and critic Jamil Al-Shabibi.
The literary texts in poetry and the story for young people expressed a real awareness of the role of literature in the challenge and drawing the picture of the future.
Finally, the results of the first three competition in the fields of poetry and story were announced, in which the number of participation in poetry reached 20 poems. In the story, 29 texts of poets and young storyteen from all governorates of Iraq.
The Director of the Cultural Center, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Abboud, stated that the competition resulted in the victory of the contestants in poetry, which are a glorious path from the holy Karbala in the first place, and Haider Khashan in second place from Dhi Qar and Noor Sabah in the third place from Basra, while the winners of the story are Somaya Rahif from Al-Najaf in the first place, while Doaa Mohammed from the Holy Karbala came second together with Abu Al-Hassan Majid from Maysan and third place was the share of Sad Mohsen from Basra.
Finally, the celebration concluded with the reading of the final statement, delivered by Mr. Bassem Al-Qatrani, a member of the Preparatory Committee, in which he stressed the importance of communicating with society through culture, as he explained in the statement the need to find spaces of interaction between cultural institutions in the city, stressing the role of young people in creating a real life that believes in culture and its historical depth.
