Scientific Activities | Recent Developments in Type 1 Diabetes Treatment:
The Clinical Pharmacy Department at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, systematically organized a highly significant educational and scientific seminar explicitly titled: (Recent Developments in the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes).
The seminar prominently included an informative lecture delivered by faculty member Noor Kadhim Mohammed. She thoroughly explained that Type 1 diabetes is practically an autoimmune disease that decisively leads to the total destruction of pancreatic beta cells, obligatorily forcing the patient to strictly rely on insulin injections purely to survive. Without an adequate amount of systemic insulin, blood glucose levels rise enormously, decisively leading to severe short- and long-term health complications.
She robustly clarified that in recent years, dedicated research and functional developments in this vital field have conclusively witnessed remarkable medical and technological advancements. Phenomenal innovations brilliantly included continuous insulin pumping systems and highly advanced Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) devices uniquely designed to accurately adjust insulin doses automatically based on exact blood sugar levels. Other breakthroughs included heavily supportive smartphone applications and the phenomenal development of fundamentally new types of insulin that decisively act faster and optimally last for extended periods, considerably facilitating the strict control of blood glucose levels.
The comprehensive lecture precisely aimed to shed intense light on fundamentally current research effectively revolving around promising immunotherapies explicitly aimed at favorably modulating the systemic immune response specifically to heavily prevent the structural destruction of beta cells. She actively reviewed encouraging, revolutionary future treatments, essentially including profoundly advanced pancreatic beta-cell transplantation rigorously utilizing stem cell technologies, prominently alongside the critical development of advanced gene therapies. These represent some of the most prominent ongoing researches decisively aimed essentially at finding a definitive cure naturally for diabetes and confidently opening promising new horizons precisely for active prevention.
