The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a scientific workshop on the wind rose: A vital tool for understanding wind patterns and its applications.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of the wind rose as an analytical tool for understanding wind directions and speeds, and its role in fields such as pollution management, renewable energy, and urban planning.
The workshop, presented by Mr. Hussein Talib Khreibish, a lecturer in the Department of Ecology, included an explanation of the most prominent applications of the rose, such as optimizing wind turbine locations, directing airport runways, designing windbreaks, and modeling the dispersion of air pollutants. It also highlighted the components of the wind rose, such as the compass, concentric circles, and colored bands.
The workshop emphasized the importance of integrating this tool into environmental and engineering studies to promote sustainability and data-driven decision-making.
