The College of Science in the Department of Mathematics discussed a seminar entitled Linear and Nonlinear Stability in Fluid Dynamics for postgraduate student Haifaa Asi Kawi. This seminar outlines a clear and accessible understanding of both linear and nonlinear stability analysis in fluid dynamics, with a special focus on the influence of the Rayleigh number. Linear analysis focuses on the behaviour of small perturbations near equilibrium and helps determine the critical Rayleigh number at which convection begins.
