The college of science at the University of Basrah organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled" stratigraphic and sedimentary study of the hartha formation in southern Iraq", which dealt with biostratigraphic analysis and the exact fossil content of the formation, with a preliminary study of the sedimentary environment and stratigraphic extension between adjacent fields. The seminar, delivered by researcher Balsam Khalid Nasser, aimed to document the chronology of the formation and link its fossil levels with geological sequences in the region, the study included emphasizing the importance of the formation as an academic reference within the record of carbonate strata of the cretaceous period in southern Iraq. The study is still in the early stages of research.
