A master's thesis at the College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Basra examined the symbolism of emotion in the thought of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), a study of Nahj al-Balagha.
The thesis, presented by student Abbas Saleh Alwan, aimed to find the optimal formula for employing and exploiting emotion in Imam Ali's (peace be upon him) speeches to achieve intellectual and societal awareness. The importance of the study lies in its demonstration of Imam Ali's (peace be upon him) approach to exploiting and employing the symbolism of emotion in confronting the proponents of deviant approaches and exposing those behind them.
The thesis concluded that emotional symbolism plays a role in achieving awareness and intellectual and societal security, thus achieving the desired goals. Emotions take many forms, including joy, sadness, anger, optimism, and others. It demonstrated Imam Ali's (peace be upon him) role in confronting the dangers surrounding society and how to correct this decline. The study also demonstrated Imam Ali's (peace be upon him) role in examining the needs of the current situation and developing effective solutions to ward off this looming danger
