A master's thesis from the College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Basra examined the geographical characteristics of the districts of Qurna, Madinah, and Sadiq in Basra Governorate, using regional maps.
The thesis, presented by researcher Zahraa Abdul Hussein Mardan, aimed to prepare a set of specialized thematic maps using geographic information systems (GIS) techniques. These maps addressed the geographical characteristics (natural and human) of the districts of Qurna, Madinah, and Sadiq from various perspectives. These maps were analyzed regionally to provide a comprehensive and comprehensive picture of geographical phenomena and clarify the spatial relationships between them and their impact on each other.
The thesis emphasized that natural resources play a significant role in the population distribution and economic activity of the districts of Qurna, Madinah, and Sadiq, particularly soil, climatic elements, and water resources. A study of the surface maps of the study area, which is characterized by a general flatness, revealed that surface features, such as river banks used for agriculture, highlight the prominent economic activity in the study area, despite the limited available resources
