University of Basra Organizes an Awareness Seminar on Drug Addiction and Its Psychological and Physiological Effects
The Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the Basra Police Command, organized a scientific awareness seminar entitled "Drug Addiction: Psychological Effects, Physiological Changes, and Treatments." The seminar was attended by a number of faculty members and students of the college, as well as representatives from security agencies.
The seminar aimed to highlight the dangers of drug abuse among various segments of society, its negative effects on mental and physical health, and available preventive and therapeutic methods.
The seminar, presented by Brigadier General Basem Ghanem Hanoun, Director of the Media Department at the Basra Police Command, Dr. Zahraa Saleh Al-Saeedi, and lecturer Suha Abdul Rahim Al-Rikabi, addressed the security and procedural aspects of combating drugs, their psychological and social effects on individuals and families, and the physiological changes that addiction causes in the nervous system and the body in general.
Participants emphasized the importance of raising awareness among university students and activating the educational and advisory role within universities to combat this dangerous phenomenon. They emphasized the need for coordination between educational, security, and health institutions to build an informed, drug-free society.
