Master's Thesis at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra: The Psychological Absence of the Father and its Relationship to Identity Confusion among Adolescents.
The research, presented by student Khalid Qatiou Obaid, aimed to investigate the psychological absence of the father among a sample of adolescents, the differences in this absence based on gender (male-female) and age (14-18 years), identity confusion among the adolescents, and the relationship between this absence and identity confusion based on gender and age.
The thesis also revealed statistically significant differences between the sample mean and the hypothetical mean of the psychological absence of the father scale, favoring the hypothetical mean. There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of males and females on the father's psychological absence scale, favoring males. Regarding the age variable, there are statistically significant differences between adolescents at the beginning and end of the stage in their perception of the father's psychological absence, favoring adolescents at the end of the stage. There are no statistically significant differences between the sample mean and the hypothetical mean on the identity confusion scale. There are no statistically significant differences between males and females in identity confusion; however, when considering the arithmetic means, we find that males are more affected by identity confusion than females. Similarly, when considering the age variable, we find that adolescents are more affected by identity confusion. There is a direct relationship between the father's psychological absence variable and the identity confusion variable. Males outperformed females in the type of relationship between the father's psychological absence and identity confusion, while adolescents at the beginning and end of the stage showed the same level of direct relationship between the two variables
