The Center for Continuing Education at the University of Basrah organized an online workshop titled “The Accused’s Right to Appoint a Defense Lawyer”, with the participation of several academics and legal professionals.
The workshop aimed to enhance legal awareness among participants by explaining the concept of the accused’s right to choose a lawyer for defense and emphasizing the importance of this right in ensuring justice and a fair trial.
The session, presented by Dr. Mazen Khalaf Nasser Al-Shammari from the College of Law at Al-Mustansiriya University, covered the duties of the lawyer during the stages of criminal proceedings, the legal responsibility in case of breach of duties, and provided an overview of the constitutional and legal basis of this right.
