The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a scientific workshop entitled "Gas Flaring and Climate Change: Health and Environmental Risks and Strategic Solutions." The workshop aimed to address the main reasons for the continued flaring of gas in Iraq. The workshop, presented by Dr. Hussein Talib Khreibish, a faculty member in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science, included an explanation of the mechanisms of global warming and climate change, and their impacts on Iraq in general. The workshop recommended a set of proposed strategies to reduce gas flaring, invest in converting gas into useful products, promote renewable energy, enforce legislation and fines, and support scientific research and international cooperation to ensure sustainability and reduce emissions.
