The Department of geoscience at the college of Science discussed a master's thesis entitled sedimentary and mineralogical study in the al-Tayeb sedimentary fan northeast of Maysan governorate, southern Iraq. The study included interpretation of sedimentary processes, identification of rock types and sources that contributed to the formation of sediments, understanding the impact of tectonic and climatic activity in the development of the fan. The research was based on an integrated approach that includes granular analyses and their techniques, rock and mineral analyses. The results concluded that the tayb fan represents a sedimentary system affected by tectonic and climatic activity, where mountain uplift and steep slope contributed to the transfer of sediments from high areas to the plains. Different clay minerals reflect alternating conditions between drought and moisture. The study recommends the application of advanced geophysical surveys of the fan because the fan environment is considered a large storage of groundwater due to high porosity, and also recommends the exploitation of some minerals for industrial applications in the country, especially they are available on the surface and in abundant quantities.
