The College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra organized a scientific seminar entitled “Human Rights in the Digital Age: Freedom of Expression Between Hate Speech and Media Misinformation,” in commemoration of International Human Rights Day.
The seminar, organized by the Human Rights Unit at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra, aimed to highlight human rights issues in the rapidly evolving digital environment and the impact of content and news dissemination through media outlets and social media platforms on shaping public awareness and influencing public opinion.
The seminar, presented by lecturer Ragheed Jassim and journalist Saad Qusay, included a discussion of the methods employed by specific ideologies or agendas to create misleading public opinion that serves political, social, or economic objectives.
The seminar also emphasized the importance of promoting media literacy, particularly among young people, to curb the spread of misleading content and protect human values in the digital sphere.
