The Department of History at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra, organized a scholarly seminar on the anniversary of Iraq's victory over ISIS, attended by a number of faculty members and students.
The seminar aimed to examine the phenomenon of ISIS's occupation of certain Iraqi regions from an academic and analytical perspective, highlighting its causes and repercussions.
The seminar, presented by several faculty members from the department, included a discussion of the role of rumors in spreading fear, undermining confidence in security institutions, sowing discord within society, and weakening morale. This, in turn, facilitated the expansion of the terrorist organization and complicated efforts to combat it.
The seminar also addressed the economic and social deterioration through the accounts of Mosul residents, the formation of national memory after liberation, and the role of the military and social mobilization in strengthening national solidarity, supporting affected communities, and restoring stability.
