
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra organized a scientific lecture on "The Legal Aspects of Medical Waste Management," attended by faculty members, students, and those interested in environmental and health issues.
The lecture, presented by Dr. Saeed Kadhim Ahmed, addressed the concept and definition of medical waste, as well as explaining its management and importance in healthcare institutions. The lecturer also discussed traditional methods of managing and disposing of medical waste, while reviewing modern and alternative methods that contribute to reducing its health and environmental risks.
The lecture also discussed Iraqi laws and regulations related to the impact of medical waste on human health and the environment in Iraq. It clarified the liability of those who produce such waste and the possibility of enacting new, more effective laws to reduce the increasing environmental pollution.
The lecture aims to enhance legal and environmental awareness among health personnel and students regarding the importance of proper management of medical waste, and the need to comply with applicable legislation, in order to contribute to protecting public health and preserving the environment, and to support efforts aimed at reducing pollution and achieving a healthy and safe environment.
