The Date Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture titled “The Chemical and Hormonal Content of Pollen Grains of Male Date Palm Cultivars of Different Ages and Their Effect on the Ripening Percentage of Tissue-Cultured Barhi Date Palm Fruits.”
The lecture aimed to study the hormonal content of pollen grains at different ages, compare the variations among different pollen groups, and examine their effects on certain yield-related traits of date palm trees associated with the metaxenia phenomenon.
The lecture, delivered by Dr. Firas Mahdi Abbas, introduced male date palm cultivars and their content of plant hormones and amino acids, and explained their impact on fruit ripening percentage. It also highlighted that pollen grains of Ghanami Red and early Khikri Ordinary cultivars contained the highest levels of plant hormones and amino acids, giving them an advantage over other pollen cultivars in pollination.
