The Polymer Research Center at the University of Basra hosted a workshop on the role of nanotechnology in promoting sustainable development, specifically focusing on applications in LED manufacturing. The workshop, presented by Dr. Mohammed Tawfiq, highlighted the pivotal role of nanotechnology in promoting sustainable development by showcasing its advanced applications in LED manufacturing. The workshop addressed the scientific foundations of nanomaterials, their unique physical and chemical properties, and how they can be used to improve optical efficiency and increase the photovoltaic conversion factor. It also discussed the contribution of nanotechnology to extending the operational lifespan of lighting sources, reducing energy consumption and operating costs, and minimizing the environmental impact of manufacturing and use processes. Furthermore, the workshop emphasized the role of nanofabrication techniques in reducing polluting emissions and supporting the transition to environmentally friendly lighting systems. The workshop aims to highlight the importance of adopting nanotechnology-based solutions in developing modern LED technologies, in line with global trends to achieve environmental and economic sustainability.
