A PhD thesis in the Department of History at the College of Arts, University of Basrah, examined (the paths of deviation and disruption of the leading role of the Imams of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) up to the year 329 AH/940 AD).
The thesis presented by researcher Faisal Ghazi Jaber included three chapters: the introductory structure of the concepts of the subject (deviation - Shiites - Imamate), intellectual deviation and the fragmentation of religious and intellectual groups, political deviation, political revolutions and the legitimacy of their launch.
The thesis aims to identify and accurately diagnose a segment of those who deviated from the path of Imamate for political motives and personal interests.
The thesis concludes that these paths of intellectual and political deviation originated from a group affiliated with and belonging to the environment of religious intellectual foundations, forming an intellectual faction opposed to the path of true Shi'ism, the proponents of a future reformist project.
The thesis recommended highlighting the distinction between the paths of intellectual and political deviation from the pure Shiites who represent the true Shiites intellectually and practically, due to their following of the Imams of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them.
