On Sunday, February 1, 2026, the Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies at the College of Arts, University of Basra, held a panel discussion entitled:
“The Impact of Electronic Games on Youth: A Waste of Time or a Development of Skills,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Saleh, and attended by a number of faculty members of the department.
The panel discussion addressed the most prominent positive and negative effects of electronic games, explaining their role in developing some mental skills, such as quick thinking and problem-solving, in contrast to the risks of excessive use, and the psychological and social effects that may result from it, as well as wasting time.
In this context, the Head of the Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies, Professor Dr. Amal Abdel Rahman, confirmed that this event comes within the scientific activities of the department, which aim to discuss contemporary issues related to modern technologies, and to highlight their effects on the youth category.
For his part, Professor Ali Abdul Samad emphasized the importance of addressing such topics with a balanced academic perspective.
In turn, the department's coordinator, Lecturer Tariq Taha Aboud, explained the department's commitment to organizing purposeful discussion sessions that contribute to raising scientific awareness.
Meanwhile, Assistant Lecturer Nidal Naama indicated that these events contribute to the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of scientific dialogue among the department's faculty members.
