The Physics Department at the College of Sciences, University of Basrah, organized a scientific discussion panel entitled Photonic Systems: Principles and Applications, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Khansa Abdullah, a lecturer in the Physics Department, as part of scientific activities aimed at promoting modern knowledge in advanced physics.
The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of photons and their pivotal role in modern technologies, as photonic systems represent a qualitative shift from traditional electronic technologies to technologies that rely on light to transmit and process information and energy. The theoretical foundations of these systems were also discussed, particularly the concepts of electromagnetism, wave optics, and the interaction of light with matter, as they are fundamental to understanding how photonic systems work.
The panel also addressed the study of the principles of linear and nonlinear optics, the components of photonic systems, and the importance of theoretical modeling in explaining the performance and physical limitations of these systems, as the theoretical framework forms the scientific basis for modern and advanced applications in the fields of optical communications, sensing, and photonic information processing.
