A master's thesis in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, explored the treatment of pathogenic bacteria in hospital wastewater using certain plant extracts and nanoparticles. The study, presented by student Mustafa Abdul Karim Jadou, aimed to treat bacterial contamination of hospital wastewater using environmentally friendly methods. These methods utilize plant extracts and biosynthesized nanoparticles derived from the plant extracts for wastewater treatment.
The study concluded that plant extracts from *V. agnus-castus* and *S. surattensis* are capable of reducing silver ions and forming silver nanoparticles due to their active chemical composition.
The study recommended further research into the use of other plants in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles and investigating their effectiveness in treating pathogenic bacteria found in water.
