As part of Entrepreneurship Week activities, faculty members from the Department of Life Sciences presented a range of research projects aimed at supporting scientific innovation and providing modern solutions to health, environmental, and industrial problems, in line with the requirements of sustainable development and community service. The presentations were attended by the President of the University of Basrah, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Ali Abdul-Imam, and a number of professors.
The University President delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of supporting entrepreneurial projects within the university and encouraging young researchers to adopt innovative ideas that contribute to serving the community and promoting development.
The Dean of the College of Science also delivered a speech praising the efforts of the researchers and faculty members and the role of the College of Science in supporting scientific research and innovation, stressing the college's commitment to sponsoring scientific projects with practical applications.
The research presentations covered a variety of fields, including medical diagnostics, biotechnology, environmental pollution treatment, and the development of environmentally friendly solutions. The presentations were by:
Assistant Professor Dr. Hisham Fayyad Mohammed. Project Title: Fabrication and Development of a Highly Sensitive Aptamer-Based Sensor for Diagnosing Pathogens and Environmental Pollutants.
Project by Prof. Dr. Salwa Abdul Zahra Abdul Jalil
Research Title: Using the Pleurotus florids Fungus to Treat Soil Pollution from Black Oil and its Derivatives.
Project by Dr. Hawraa Qais Obaid
Project Title: Using Iron Oxide Nanoparticles and Bio-Coagulating Materials in Industrial Wastewater Treatment.
Student Project within the Leadership Activities
Project Title: Using Algae in the Production of Bioplastics by Student Mahdi Hussein Abdul Imam, Supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nada Jassim Mohammed.
These participations come within the framework of the Department of Life Sciences' commitment to promoting a culture of scientific leadership and encouraging projects based on innovation and development that possess scalability and offer added value in the health, environmental, and industrial fields.
