Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Mohammed Al-Nawab, the Continuing Education Unit at the College organized a scientific seminar on combating extremism post-2003. The seminar featured presentations by Assistant Professor Dr. Sundus Baqir Dawood, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs; Assistant Professor Dr. Zuhair Salem Abdul-Razzaq; Assistant Lecturer Riyadh Hussein Taqi; and Lecturer Luay Abdul-Wahid Shihab.
The seminar aimed to highlight the phenomenon of extremism as one of the most serious intellectual and social challenges facing contemporary societies, and to review educational and scientific methods for confronting it from an academic and humanitarian perspective.
The speakers addressed the intellectual, social, and psychological factors that lead to extremism and emphasized the important role of universities in promoting the values of tolerance, dialogue, and moderation through curricula and purposeful student activities.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Assistant Professor Dr. Sundus Baqir Dawood emphasized that the College of Nursing places great importance on instilling intellectual awareness in students and combating extremist ideologies through education and enlightenment, praising the efforts of the academic staff in supporting intellectual security and serving the community.
