The College of Education for Humanities Organizes a Scientific Seminar on Intolerance and its Security Implications
The Guidance Unit at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra, in cooperation with the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance, organized a scientific seminar on intolerance, its psychological roots, religious and legal manifestations, and its security implications. The seminar was attended by the Dean of the College, Wissam Jumaa Lafteh, along with a number of faculty members and students.
The seminar aimed to shed light on the causes of intolerance, address its psychological and intellectual roots, and outline ways to reduce it and prevent its transformation into violent extremism that threatens the security of society.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Zahraa Saleh Al-Saidi, Dr. Ikthar Khalil Ibrahim, Sheikh Hassan Kadhim Hashem, and Dean Ahmed Dawood Salman, included presentations that demonstrated the link between intolerance and a weak sense of identity, feelings of frustration, or marginalization, which increases susceptibility to adopting extremist ideologies. The symposium emphasized the importance of psychological counseling in promoting self-confidence, developing a positive identity and dialogue skills, in addition to the role of religious discourse in correcting misconceptions and spreading moderation, and the legal role in criminalizing hate speech, leading to an integration that contributes to enhancing security and social stability.
