The Department of History at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra, in cooperation with the Community Police, organized a seminar on intellectual extremism and its impact on society, on the occasion of the International Day for Countering Violent Extremism. The seminar was attended by the Dean of the College, Dr. Wissam Jumaa Lafteh, and a number of faculty members and students.
The seminar aimed to analyze the cognitive, social, economic, and political structures that contribute to the formation of extremist discourse and to demonstrate its repercussions on social peace.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Nawfal Kadhim, Dr. Nada Khudair Jabr, and Lieutenant Colonel Muntadhar Kadhim Ni'ma, focused on the impact of poverty, marginalization, and political conflicts in fueling extremist tendencies, as well as the role of family upbringing and educational institutions in building critical awareness.
The seminar emphasized that intellectual extremism can transform into violent practices that undermine the foundations of dialogue and coexistence. It stressed the importance of adopting integrated approaches that include promoting conscious education, establishing a culture of tolerance, and activating legal and media frameworks to limit the spread of extremist ideology
