The Department of History at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra, in cooperation with the Guidance Unit, organized an awareness-raising play addressing the phenomenon of domestic violence and its psychological impact on the individual and society. The play was attended by a number of faculty members and students.
The play aimed to highlight the dangers of domestic violence and its negative repercussions on the individual and society.
The play, performed by several students from the Department of History and written and directed by Dr. Imad Mukallaf Al-Badran, depicted the suffering of children from parental abuse, oppression, and attempts to suppress their personalities. It explored the profound psychological effects this can have, potentially driving the abused individual to seek revenge against their family and community.
The play also highlighted how oppression and repression can lead to extremism and the adoption of misguided ideologies as a means of self-affirmation, resulting in domineering and authoritarian behavior towards others.
