The Date Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture titled “Mycotoxins and Their Pathological Effects on Humans and Animals.”
The lecture aimed to introduce the most important types of mycotoxins that affect plants and to highlight their harmful effects on human and animal health, given their direct impact on food safety and quality.
The lecture, delivered by researcher Luna Qahtan Mohsen, addressed the factors leading to the formation of mycotoxins and the sources of contamination in plants and food products. It also discussed the scientific methods used to reduce contamination and prevent exposure, in addition to reviewing the major types of toxins and the fungi responsible for producing them, their effects on different parts of the human body, and the toxicity levels of each type. The lecture emphasized the importance of adhering to preventive and regulatory measures to ensure food safety.
