A doctoral dissertation at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra, examined the issue of Soviet nuclear weapons in Ukraine from 1991 to 1994 and their repercussions (a historical study).
The dissertation, submitted by student Ahmed Khamat Saber Al-Asafi, aimed to understand the circumstances surrounding the issue of inherited Soviet nuclear weapons in Ukraine, the factors that led to the presence of a Soviet nuclear arsenal in Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and how the Ukrainian position reacted to international pressure regarding nuclear disarmament.
The dissertation included the most prominent findings:
