The Department of Physics at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a scientific lecture titled “Nature Designs the Future: The Green Revolution in Nanotechnology,” presented by Dr. Marwa Jawad Kazem, a faculty member in the department, in the presence of several department faculty members and graduate students.
The lecture addressed the importance of shifting nanomaterial manufacturing methods from traditional chemical and physical methods—which are often environmentally costly—to sustainable green manufacturing methods that rely on natural, eco-friendly sources.
The lecture highlighted the potential to draw inspiration from nature by using plant and microbial extracts as bio-factories to produce safe, effective nanoparticles, while explaining the biological mechanisms that contribute to the conversion of metal ions into stable nanoparticles.
It also reviewed the most significant applications of these particles across medicine, the environment, and optical and electronic devices, as well as their role in developing modern technologies that account for environmental sustainability requirements.
The lecture emphasized that the shift toward green technology in nanotechnology represents a promising path for the future of scientific research, as it combines scientific innovation with environmental conservation and enhances the potential for developing advanced technological solutions that align with the requirements of sustainable development.
