

The Department of Translation at the College of Arts / University of Basrah held a scientific workshop titled “Writing Emails from Scratch to Professionalism.” The workshop was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Ruqayya Subaih Al-Ta’i on Sunday, 15 March 2026, in one of the department’s halls. It was moderated by the Head of the Department, Professor Zainab Sami Hawl.
The workshop was attended by one of the department’s graduates and the head of the English Learning Team, Mr. Mustafa Salah Karim, along with undergraduate students from various academic stages.
The workshop covered the fundamental principles of writing formal emails for undergraduate students, essential tips for avoiding common mistakes, and how to compose clear, professional messages free from linguistic and stylistic errors.
Dr. Al-Ta’i presented various sample emails, explaining their structure in detail (subject line, body, conclusion, closing, and signature) highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Students were also given the opportunity to share their opinions on these examples.
The workshop concluded with a recommendation for participating students to apply the correct practical steps when writing formal emails, emphasizing its importance as a fundamental aspect of student registration and affiliation with their department, college, and university.
